LDS Tools and new M1 Macs

#1

Post by adamberkey »

Hello,

The new M1-equipped Macs can now run iOS software, IF the developer allows the software to be downloaded via the App store by M1-equipped Mac users along with iOS users. Does anybody know if there are any intentions to not allow LDS Tools to be downloaded and run on the new desktop computers?

The app does not require any changes by the developer, but it does need to be allowed to be used on a Mac by the developer, or likely "not blocked" by the developer, should they want to create an official desktop version and distribute it as a separate version.

I believe the app is allowed by default, and the developers has to actively disallow them from M1 Macs. Seeing as how other official church apps (like Gospel Library) are available on the M1 App Store I would guess this was done intentionally and won't change any time soon. :(

There might be data security implications. At the very least, the church would have to be sure there were no issues.

It has been a phenomenal benefit to have both the gospel library and Member Tools available on M1. We're able to cast them to screen in all of our meetings (especially bishopric meeting and ward council or trainings) and it's been very useful. However, with the latest update, gospel library will no longer launch on M1.
