Church Zoom Account Email Change

#1

Post by akennelley »

I'm a brand new Stake technology specialist. And I've kinda inherited some confusion.

I've accessed the "Meet" portal and see the list of Zoom accounts assigned to each Unit in my stake. However, the previous person had sent the email for activation of the license to our Bishop's email. The bishop, upon getting it ignored it until I reached out.

Important to note, because I am brand new, I do not know what the users have to do with the setup email once they get it.

He asked me if clicking the button in the setup email, would set it up specific to HIS email. He wanted to avoid proceeding until we know the answer, as he would much prefer the account license be tied to the general email for the ward itself. Do I have to contact MHT? I see the "REMOVE" button next to the pending unit in question, but I also see the warning at the top saying not to use that for purposes of changing email.

Will my bishop be able to setup the zoom account to use the ward email? Or will it be tied to his personal email (requiring intervention from MHT)?

Thank you for reading, I am hopeful for your responses.

I’ve just been through the process of activating the licenses for my Stake.
Initially the Bishop will need to click the activation notification in the email. Once that is done and the system acknowledges the activation. He will need to login in to the Zoom website. Once logged in he can go to the Profile section (Down the left side) and change the email address associated with the account, to the desired email address to be used.

Based on prior postings, changing the email will result in breaking the link the church uses on the meet page. It may show an error or that a license is available when it's actually being used.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

After all the licenses were activated using our Stake email, I changed the email access for each ward by adding the +name@gmail.com option to that address and also a new password. Each ward therefore has a unique email address and unique password. This doesn’t affect the meet page and all the licenses attributed to the wards are still displayed.

That might be a special case. I activated them using the +name@gmail from the get-go.

I've seen other posts here where changing the email cause the meet page to get confused. Perhaps that's been fixed.

No. They have been able to fix some of them, but I still have one that the church said they fixed but it still does not reflect correctly at the Meet portal.

Our new branch is struggling to open up their Zoom account that the church has recently provided. When the "send activation email" tab is clicked... no email is forthcoming. Any suggestions?

I have posted this previously. Since you are new here is the summary. If you create the zoom account before the email address has been provisioned or if for any other reason the activation email from Zoom bounces back as undeliverable Zoom will blacklist the email address. The resolution if you are sure that the email address is correct is to reach out to Zoom technical support and have them white list the email address.

Many may disagree but what works best for me is to create all the email addresses used by the stake and use them to register the Zoom accounts. I never share the email account password. I only share the email account name and the Zoom password. This keeps me in control with the ability to change the Zoom password at will.

As the STS I retain as much control as possible so I can most effectively support the units under my stewardship. When things go sidewise everyone is grateful that the accounts can easily be recovered.

Good luck.
