Printing from phone

#1

Post by jonhegsted »

Prior to the liahona internet we could print from our phones to the clerk's office. Very helpful for mye as a bishop and my counselors when we are doing youth temp recommends and other things. Is there a way with the new internet access to allow printing from our phones?

If you are signed on to the WiFi and the printer is also signed on, you should still be able to print. Ask your stake technology specialist to fix the printer so that it will be able to connect to the WiFi without having to accept the splash screen (which the printer obviously cannot do).

This depends on how the printer is connecting. It doesn't apply to printers that are connected via a wired jack. It also shouldn't affect printers are are only working "locally". It would only affect the printer if it's having to reach out to the internet, such as a server, to print. It all depends on what technology is being used to connect the phone to the printer.

From Registering Devices in Technology Manager
Some wireless devices don’t support a click-through experience to accept the terms of use and therefore won’t function on the Liahona network without being registered in Technology Manager (TM). For example, a printer that uses the internet for a function like “scan to email” will need to be connected to the new network and registered in TM.

Devices that are connected to the network but do not need to access the internet to function will continue working once connected to the Liahona network without being registered (for instance, a printer that is used only to print locally).

It is preferred that devices that do not typically move be connected to the network using a hardwired connection. Devices that move between buildings will need to be registered for each building in which they are used.

Our printer has been added to the No splash list and has an IP address. It shows up on phones as Ana available printer as well. But when print jobs are sent from phones, the printer does not receive them. Are there ports that are block on wireless?

TIA

There are no ports being blocked on the local network, including WiFi. Does the printer happen to have a LAN cable plugged in? Most printers can't do both wired and wireless at the same time. Just a random hunch.

No, we don’t have a port in the clerks office available. When a print job is sent from a phone the printer never shows a job received. So far in the logs it has never received a print job. They just get held up on the phone. I’ll try another device and a pc to printer wirelessly to see what else happens. Still open to any suggestions if you can think of any. Hard to truly troubleshoot without seeing what the traffic is doing
