Temporary Membership Record

#1

Post by mkmurray »

Why would there be a temporary record number (it has the unit number in it) for a donor we don't have a record for yet?

Looking through the system, I don't really see a record though. It makes me think that MLS uses record numbers of the temporary format even for instances of people where there is no record, even temporary or local-only records.

Thanks in advance.

To check this, I tried adding a new donor (John Doe) as "not a member/miscellaneous" (in the Test Ward). Initially there was no record number assigned to that "donor." But when I immediately went back in to that donor and changed the name to John Doe Jr., the "confirmation" screen showed that MLS had assigned a "temporary" record number to that donor.

This must be so that MLS can track any transactions tied to that donor and decide whether it can delete "old donors" when it closes out the year.

This record number is assigned to donors who donate to your unit when their records are not in your unit. When they do arrive, you can link it to the membership record.

Thanks for the input. It does makes sense to have some kind of unique identifier per each unknown individual in the system.
