CDOL not updating when home phone number removed from church account?

#1

Post by BrianEdwards »

A particular situation in CDOL, that of course propagates to the meetinghouse locator, where our unit shows up with the Branch President's "old" home phone number. He updated his member record years ago, and his home phone number was removed from his account (it's empty). However, up until today CDOL has apparently never updated and still showed the old home phone number in his CDOL data, which we assume is what the meetinghouse locator is pulling (whether it should pull the home or cellphone number is a separate issue, covered by a separate thread in the Forum!)

I suppose perhaps blanking out the home phone number didn't trigger an update in CDOL, but if the home phone number in the record had been updated with the cell phone number this might have triggered the update inside CDOL and then a subsequent update to the meetinghouse locator.

Alternatively, is CDOL operating completely separate from the member record? I'm leaning towards this, since in CDOL you can manually edit the home and cell phone numbers, which wouldn't make sense if they then get automatically overwritten by whatever is in the member record. It might be that when a leader is populated inside CDOL it's a one-time read from the member record, but then subsequently it can only be updated manually inside CDOL (i.e. no data transfer occurs when a member record is updated). If that's the case, then I'm assuming there's lots of Bishops out there who get new phone numbers, update their member record, and never realize there's an additional step needed.

Anyone have some guidance about this? Perhaps this is a unique case, or perhaps I'm thinking about things the wrong way...

He should be able to edit that:
  • Go into CDOL and look up himself (either by position or by name)
  • Click on the name to open up the name into full screen
  • At the top left, click on "Edit Assignment"
  • Click on "Phone numbers" tab
Don't forget to click "Save" when done.

That was what we did, and we'll check the meetinghouse locator to see if it eventually updates (it should).

Just wondering if others had seen any issues recently like this, and if anyone knew for certain whether CDOL is supposed to automatically pull contact info from the member record, or if the correct process always is to update the info directly inside CDOL.

Just following up for anyone finding this in the future: today (11/16/22) I checked the Meetinghouse Locator, and the number we entered in CDOL indeed is now appearing correctly. And I also checked the new CDOL interface released this week, and leaders can still perform these steps on their account info (as expected, but it's always good to verify!).
