Calendar Formatting

#1

Post by jay.anderson »

I found that the calendar supports formatting with some basic html tags. Tags I've found that work:

- Line breaks: <br> and <p>
- Lists <ul> <li> (partially: nested lists render on the website, but not on mobile)
- Headers <h1>, <h2>, etc.
- Images <img ...> (partially: it renders on the website, but not on mobile)

Tags I've found that do not work:

- Links<a href="..."> I'd love to be able to include direct links to places on the church website (e.g. come follow me, handbook, scriptures, etc.)

Is there a documented list of tags that are supported?

I don't have inside information about the current calendar, but when I volunteered on an earlier edition several years ago, a lot of effort was put into avoiding HTML injection vulnerabilities. If the ability to add tags to calendar event descriptions and the like is intended, that's great. However, if not, based on reports that the calendar system had to be rushed to release before it was completely ready, please don't be surprised if the ability to add tags goes away.

Makes sense. It feels like an intentional feature (i.e. some tags are removed when submitting), but I understand if it changes. Formatting is definitely a feature I was glad to find so I was curious to get more details. It's also nice that it's mostly consistent in rendering on the mobile app and web.
