Local Search Listings for Meetinghouses Announcement

#1

Post by rickhellewell »

The recent letter about "Local Search Listings for Meetinghouses" (https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/let ... g&lang=eng ) indicated that there is some process that needs to be done by local communication specialists in wards/stakes to ensure that the information about meetinghouses is correct and accurate.

But the letter is very vague (if that) about how/where/what to do. Is there a new application somewhere in LCR ? (I haven't found one.) Is this an application that is only available to certain callings - and which callings?

I can't find any details on this new thing. Any ideas?

I saw no mention of "local communication specialists." The closest I saw to that was the mention of a "stake communication council, where organized, or to a member of a coordinating or national communication council." Later in the notice it mentions local leaders can support these efforts by providing that information (this assignment may also be delegated to a clerk or secretary). So the management of this information is managed outside units and the lowest level of managing this information could be at the stake in their communication council, if one exists. Once the individual for managing the information is called they will manage this information by contacting local leadership to verify the correct information for each building or congregation.

So if a stake communication specialist is called for this effort then I would expect the person extending the call would provide further information, procedures, and possibly resources.

I am at the stake level (exec sect), and my stake president is similarly confused about what must be done. He has no knowledge about any processes that need to be done.

The stake president can contact his coordinating council for further information.

Interesting. At this point the letter seems to say "pick someone". I assume instructions will follow. It might be as simple as an email to send corrections.

I do wonder what kind of latitude they'll have. Our stake center is weird. You don't park at the stake center, but in a parking structure next door. That can be real interesting to put into Google maps.

I do notice that the letter comes from the "Church Communication Department" which probably has very limited ability to task local leadership, but can task those in a communication calling.

I'm also exec sec. I just ignored it and assumed that Area would eventually get in contact with us if we need to do anything ourselves.

That was my understanding as well, that these new efforts would begin in each location once an assignment/calling is made specific to this change. So we all just wait until our respective Area Council in coordination with our Stake determines how they are going to organize this, and make an assignment/calling. This person will then contact those needed.

I noticed today the first indications of how this is going to work.

After logging into your church account, click on the 'waffle' (circle with square dots) next to your picture icon. Then select "All Tools". Scroll down until you see the "Online Listings Management" choice.

Right now, that choice gives me a '403' error. Not sure if that is an 'access' error (although the message indicates that) caused by my position not being allowed access, or if it's not complete yet.

BTW, the "All Tools" links are great - there's lots of links in there for all sorts of purposes.

It does go to the Yext page, so it appears that the link works, just need to set up permissions.

Most recent update we've heard is that there will be training organised in September for whoever the local person is that has been given the calling/assignment.
