Temple Recommend plastic holders

#1

Post by MurdockM »

Ward Clerk here,

Is there a place where I should order the clear plastic temple recommend holders/sleeves?

Is there a non plastic replacement?

Or do we reprint a valid current active recommend(s) as needed?

The temple will give a member a plastic sleeve if they do not have one or need a new one. They are usually available at the recommend desk.

Some members order special holders on their own.

The ward does not need to provide one.

If the ward still wants to order them, I believe they are available as unit supplies on the online store (they used to be). When the annual youth recommends came out, our bishop wanted to order them so the youth recommends would not be torn up before they got to the temple. I was ward clerk at the time. Price wasn't terrible, but the minimum quantity is large (it was enough that we gave 1/3 to each of the other 2 wards in our building and still had enough for many years to come...).

Currently the online store offers two options:

1) The clear polypropylene holders, in a pack of 500
2) The "children and youth" temple recommend holders, vinyl, with the picture of Christ on the front. Comes in packs of 10.

For our temple recommend interviews, we ask both youth and adults if they have a recommend holder. If not, we offer a vinyl holder (the C&Y version), which we regularly restock as needed as part of our local budget expenses.

Thanks,
I had thought about asking if the Bishopric wants to print the Youth limited-use recommends on heavier paper (like 61lb inkjet/laser photo printing paper) instead of thin copy paper.
I'll now look into the C&Y version holder and see what the Bishopric tells me they want done.

Sincerely, a Ward Clerk

Printing on thicker paper is an interesting idea. When I lived next to a print and copy place I just had my temple recommend laminated to keep it in good condition without a holder. I wonder if card-size laminators exist that could be kept in a clerk's office?

They do, but I would guess most wards would not like to purchase them from budget funds. I have seen them as low as about $60.00 on Amazon but then you have to budget for the plastic sleeves as well. It might make sense for several wards who share a building to go together and keep it in the Material Center, though.

At this point I wouldn't do it. I seem to remember there's a pilot to do temple recommends via the Member Tools app.

I'm sure there will still be paper for the phone-less, but it may not get the usage it does now.
