RackLink Remote Power Switch flashing System Alarm

One of the RackLink Remote Power Switches was flashing red this morning (System Alarm). Does anyone know 1) how to reset the alarm? 2) who to contact and let them know that the switch is bad (if it is)?

If powering down the rack (usually the left-most switch on the power bar), waiting a bit, and powering it back up (DON'T do this on a Sunday morning!) doesn't reset the alarm, then it's time to report it upline. The proper chain would first go to the Stake Technology Specialist (STS). If he/she can't resolve it, then next is the Stake Physical Facilities Representative (PFR). He (or the STS) can open a Facility Issue Reporting (FIR) trouble ticket which will alert the next in line, which is the Facility Management Support group (FM). In most cases, the buck stops there and they will arrange for a crew to fix the problem. Sometimes these crews are independent contractors that are called in by the FM manager depending on the nature of the problem. The STS and PFR can see the ticket in FIR and know if the ticket has been closed or not.

I went into a bit of detail not knowing your position in the stake. It may also help anyone reading along.

I'm not sure if I've seen that system. When powered on, our remote power switches will flash for several seconds. It's an indicator that the system may not be ready for use yet. (Mostly a delay in the power amps before they connect the speakers.) It's about 10 seconds or so. This is not a true status, but just something programmed into the control system and the indicator may or may not match the actual functioning of the system. In one of our chapels, the system is functioning while the power switch is still flashing.

I haven't timed it. I've never seen anything labeled as an alarm.

You have a bad rack link power distribution unit and it needs to be replaced. Notify the FM Group. There was a model of the Rack Link PDUs that had this failure and I've changed out about 10 of them over the past 3 years. These are the ones with little round buttons on the front the light up. I've been swapping them out with the Lowell brand PDUs from Poll Sound in Salt Lake. But this should be something the FM Group handles.
