No AirPrint on Xerox VersaLink B625 MFP: Solved

We got a new Xerox VersaLink B625 MFP about a month ago.

When I first networked the printer, it did not support AirPrint. As it turns out, this was due to a deficiency in the system software version that shipped with the copier (118.025.002.27804), as the AirPrint section that should have been there was missing from Embedded Web Server > Properties > Connectivity. Upgrading system software to the latest version (120.025.023.30800) put the AirPrint section there. AirPrint was not on by default, so I turned it on in Properties > Connectivity Setup > Airprint.

If you ever have to do this, the system software upgrade process on this Xerox is not intuitive. Download the latest version of the software zip file from Xerox Support and extract it. You'll see another zip file in the extracted folder, but don't do anything with that yet. First, look for the correct instruction PDF. If you are installing system software over the Embedded Web Server (where you enter the printer's IP address into a web browswer), look for the instruction file with EWS in the filename. Then, follow the instructions to upgrade the system software. Keep an eye the printer display because it will prompt you to turn the printer off and on a couple of times.
