Is there a half hour timeout or something? I login, navigate, come back later in the day and it's requesting login information. Why?
This is on my MacBook, which locks automatically when I move away from it. And is secured by a Secure Enclave and my literal finger print.
If you're going to time us out, provide a count down. If a count down offends your sensibilities, then my point is proven. Having a timeout on the Church website (which I'm increasingly beginning to do more regularly in an effort to fight against social media addiction) feels bad. I go in and highlight a scripture. Oh whoops it's been 40 minutes, gotta sign in before I can leave a note or add a tag.
The weirdest part is that it holds onto some sort of state, eg it remembers my home settings. Maybe storing all that in cookies? Not much of a web guy, forgive my ignorance.
Anyways, if you have us on a short logout timer for leaving notes in our scriptures, and you're hiding that timer from us because it makes the user feel bad, then the problem is the short time out, not letting the user know how long they have.
I'd expect the timeout to be more like 48 hours or 72 if there was a need to have a timeout. But no need on my phone? My phone can remain logged into the app.
If it's just a bug, sorry for the rant. But please consider this a request to fix said bug
It logs out way too quickly. It feels worse than my bank website

If I remember correctly it is 1 hour (but that might have changed)bryan1anderson wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 2:54 pm Is there a half hour timeout or something? I login, navigate, come back later in the day and it's requesting login information. Why?
I agree it is frustrating to not know when you've been timed out. One of the challenges of some kind of count down is that you might have have multiple tabs open (i.e. one for donations and another for scriptures) and those tabs don't know about each other, but they might not have the latest session timeout info.bryan1anderson wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 2:54 pm If you're going to time us out, provide a count down. One reason for the shorter timeout is because that same login is what gives leaders access to finance info and membership info, so knowing that I'm way more willing to accept the timeout on the scriptures page.bryan1anderson wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 2:54 pm I'd expect the timeout to be more like 48 hours or 72 if there was a need to have a timeout.

Thanks for your reply! Yeah like variable access levels for specific account stuff has been a thing since "change password" was invented.
I get donations, I get sacred clothing, I even get members lists. I just don't get why my scriptures can't stay logged in.

For reference, the Tech Forum primarily serves as user-to-user discussion and self-help. Although you did get a response from a Church employee, from what we are told, the few Church employees who frequent the Forum do so in an unofficial capacity. And there's no process to take requests from the Forum and put them into the Church's database for consideration. A couple of thoughts:bryan1anderson wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 8:29 pm Thanks for your reply! 1) The way to get a request like yours into the Church's system, is to use the Feedback functionality available at the bottom of most Church webpages, as well as inside Church apps. Although you may not get even an automated response, we have been told that all Feedback is processed.
2) We (aka Forum Members) have also been told that "Church IT" has limited resources available, often are working with older systems and databases, and also has additional priorities set by internal Church Departments. So my guess is sometimes even "simple" enhancements are not prioritized, and in other cases they have conflicts with other functionality that cannot be easily disentangled. And yet other times our user perspective on what makes things easier, may conflict with how Church Departments desire the UI to behave. Mostly we just guess as to the underlying reasons why

You may want to consider using the Gospel Library app. It can sync notations to the website.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.
