After running the setup tool for a clerk computer, Windows notifies me that "Your work or school requires this device to be encrypted." Clicking on the notification prompts me to confirm that there is no other disk encryption software installed and start the encryption process. I don't see any suggestions or guidance on this in the wiki or in the Church technology standards.
I understand the benefits of full disk encryption and also see some potential support headaches. What is the recommendation here?

Re: Windows 11 "encryption needed" notification
Lacking a response and clear policy guidance, I've decided to leave the disks unencrypted and disable the annoying notification. If required, it can be done later. Regardless, I'm erring on the side of preventing calls to our stake tech specialists and the church support line.

Re: Windows 11 "encryption needed" notification
During the recent CrowdStrike event, it came to light that our newest FSC computers had whole disk encryption. But fortunately GSD had the keys, so we could get in.
So, there is management in place to deal with encrypted disks.

Re: Windows 11 "encryption needed" notification
So, Is there official direction regarding how we should respond to the "Encryption Needed" popup on new Windows 11 Clerk computers? The CrowdStrike event makes me wary of encrypting local disk drives without direction to do so.
Thanks,
Ron Tilby

Re: Windows 11 "encryption needed" notification
I found nothing in the policy, wiki, forum, or other resources. I take this to mean that it's up to the discretion of the technology specialist. I chose to leave the systems unencrypted.
