DNC on records

Where is there the official announcement about DNC status on member's information in the directory? I saw some posts from 2009 that there was something somewhere that said we should not notate that on a member record. Anything official?

It was a message sent via MLS, but I've never seen anything official following up on that. That was so long ago, everyone who got that message has moved on to other callings.

I don't think there's a way you can record that in the membership record that the member won't see in things like Member Tools. Sometimes the desire for no contact is limited to local leaders and not the church at large.

Members do have the ability to unsubscribe from local leader emails sent via LCR, as well as the ability to hide contact information from all except the leaders.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

I think for years there have been some units that have done "creative" things like that with phone numbers or emails. Part of the problem with that approach is that if a record is transferred, you lose all context of what exactly that DNC means. Was it somebody going thru a messy divorce and didn't want Church contact for a while, but now wishes somebody remembered them? Did they have personal issues with a Bishop, but after he was released nobody ever reached back out? And for that matter, even in the same ward, with leader turnover ever few years, you end up with nobody in the current ward council knowing why a certain record has that 'tag', and everyone just assumes they shouldn't reach out.

Specific to your circumstance, it may be that the previous unit had no idea that the member's phone number had that. If they were aware, it would seem proper for them to reach out to the new Bishop to provide the necessary info. But as we know, sometimes the new ward needs to initiate that communication.
