I think it would be a fairly minor concern that can easily be addressed with education. These emails will not be coming out of the blue. They come in direct response to doing something with the site and it will tell you when it's sending them. Members should be suspicious about such emails if they haven't made a change to their account.

The reason for the confirmation email to to insure the email address is correct and going to the right person. It's standard practice.

Local Unit Web Sites (LUWS) switching to LDSAccount

#82

Post by pete_arnett-p40 »

The follow are summaries about Local Unit Web Sites (LUWS) switching to LDSAccount and other stuff

LDS Account questions were submitted to "LDS Global Service Desk" with replies from the "Local Unit Website Administrator"

-----------------------------------------------
Question:
When are the older www.lds.org "Sign In" access accounts going away for members use at the ward and stake levels?

Reply:
"The system is still transitioning from the old NetIDs to the new LDS Accounts, but eventually only the LDS Accounts will be used for the Stake and Ward website. Any updates of local information is done at a local level through ward and stake clerks."

-----------------------------------------------
Question:
1) When is the user-id format for the new LDS Acoount, e.g., you can use the underscore and what other special characters?

Reply:
"1) The normal id format used by most users is lastname and first two initials. Ex: Ben L. Hutchins (HutchinsBL). You can use any special characters but we don’t recommend it. Sometimes users have trouble with that."

Question:
2) Can a user reuse their older account?

Reply:
"2) They can use their old username but with a different password than they used to have."

-----------------------------------------------
Question: When will the ward's Local Unit Web Site (LUWS) be updated with the Registered Users "User Name"?

Reply:
"When users who do not have the new accounts log into the system it shows how many days before the termination. All accounts are terminating on the same day."

-----------------------------------------------
Verbal Question LDS Global Service Desk:
What web sites will be using the "LDS Account"

Verbal Reply:
Mainly the web sites that support church internal activities

-----------------------------------------------
Verbal Question to FamilySearch Support Staff:
When will Family History sites be part of the "LDS Account"

Verbal Reply:
Some time in future for Single sign-on (SSO), but not at this time

FYI:
The User Name column only shows user names for users that still need to migrate their user accounts to an LDS Account user name and password. For users that have successfully migrated their user accounts to LDS Account and need to recover their user name, they can recover it at http://ldsaccount.ldschurch.org.

Then why isn't my name showing up on the list? I logged in with my LDS Account.

It doesn't show up because you have already migrated to the use of LDS Account. It only shows user names of users that haven't yet migrated to the use of an LDS Account user name and password.

So, after everyone has migrated, no one will be left on the list and we will not be able to deactivate a user?

You will retain the ability to disable users.

If all users in your ward have migrated to the use of LDS Account user names and passwords, the user name column will no longer be visible for that ward. All other existing columns in the Registered Users page will remain.

When all users have successfully migrated to the use of LDS Account user names and passwords, the responsibility of providing the user's user name by the stake and ward admins will no longer be necessary. This is because LDS Account allows any user to recover their own user name.

Wahoo! I see the change, now I know who to contact to encourage them to switch! Yay!

Have a great day!
