Licensing and Insuring a Stake/ Ward Trailer

#1

Post by barwillhansen »

Our YSA stake is planning to purchase an enclosed trailer for cooking gear. How should we license and insure it? My search on this forum has only turned up old post during BSA days.

I'm not finding anything. I'd invoke General Handbook 0.4 and suggest the stake president consult his presiding authority.

Trailers carry liability and questions of who will be responsible for making sure licensing is current and it's maintained in safe, road-worthy condition.

Thank You, this is helpful. It was suggested by another stake president that we license it under the corporation of the presiding Bishop. This seems cumbersome. We will run this one up the priesthood reporting line.

I may have answered my own question and this document might be helpful to others. I received these instructions from church tax department. Hopefully this will bless others looking for answers to the same question

Reason: Attachment was "do not distribute".

Attachment "UtilityTrailer-RegistrationLicensingReportingClaims-Rev06-01-2022" was removed.

The fact it exists indicates there is a policy. The church tax office needs to be involved, so this is something to work out with church headquarters.

For those who have or are wanting to get a trailer, contact church headquarters.

So I get it, but seriously, this should be widely known, distributed and easily available, I can't drive by a church in Utah without seeing 1 to 3 trailers and sometimes 4 in the parking lot.

Could you perhaps contact the church tax department again, and ask them if there's some official type of info that could be shared publicly in our Tech Forum? Even a high level statement like "it's discouraged but can be considered on a case-by-case basis", or perhaps "it's a great idea, just have to do the appropriate paperwork", would be helpful to get a general idea of the Church's current position (my quoted texts were just an example, I have zero knowledge of what the referenced document actually says). That way if others find this thread, they could pass the high-level info on to their local leaders for consideration, before contacting the Church.
