Cochlear implants

Post by Mikerowaved »

I was recently asked if there was anything our sound system or assisted listening devices could do to further help a person with a cochlear implant. I'm not at all familiar with these implants, except what I may have gleaned from a few Rush Limbaugh shows where he spoke about his.

Does anyone have any recommendation I could pass along to this individual? Thanks!

Both Comtek and Listen Technologies offer "Neck loops" that plug into the earphone jack of the receiver. It magnetically couples the signal to compatible hearing aids and implants.

How much FM would help in this, I have no idea. But it's worth asking.

This is the loop for the Listen Technologies systems. The ear piece plugs into the loop, or don’t use one if you use want to stream to your hearing aid with a t-coil. Some newer hearing aids have the t-coil in an external device, or the device has a male-to-mail headphone cable to plug into the receiver.

I had to buy my own neck loop, as I couldn’t find any in our building, Our receivers are in rough shape, as well, with batteries not lasting through sacrament meeting, so I ended up buying a cheap rechargeable portable radio on Amazon that can receive the 72.1 FM signal. My setup could work with cochlear implants, too.

The FM should be able to add/replace ALS devices. I'd suggest mentioning this to your bishop. https://tech.churchofjesuschrist.org/wi ... Technology
