Case Mods for Ward Computers

#1

Post by atticusewig »

I was staring at the Ward Computer the other
day and noticed that the round piece of plastic
that is etched with the word "Dell" was easily
removable. Which got me to thinking...

Why upgrade the machine with more memory
so it runs fast enough for me not to have the
time to stare and come up with these ideas,
when that money can be spent on case mods ?

Imagine if instead of being engraved with something
as insipid as "Dell", if that silver piece of plastic
was etched with "LDS", or better yet, a picture
of the golden plates or Angel Moroni statue.

Going further with the idea, we could attach gift
wrapping paper to our monitors like we see
in those television adverts for laptop designs.
I'm sure the Church Bookstore has some really
cool prints.

Even further, I bet some of the really genius
people on this list have even built some really
awesome case mods for their home computer.
Like a case that looks like a set of scriptures
with a power cord that mimics a red ribbon
bookmark; Or
perhaps a water-cooled system designed
to look like a baptismal font. Or perhaps
even some system you hobbled together
with the saying:

"Make it do,
even if it's slow,
I'd love to upgrade,
but I have no dough."

emblazened across DI stuff
with which you put it together.

So any suggestions on other case mods ?

If I ever get called as ward clerk I'd have to donate my desktop to the ward! I wish the church would switch to Linux if they continue to insist on running the latest os on yesterdays hardware.

We could always open them up, put clear plastic over the components making a plastic bucket then fill it with dirt and plant pretty flowers inside. Just put the monitor on the side of the system.

Wouldn't a vegetable garden be more 'self sufficient' :D

Excellent Idea! Then I wouldn't have to pack a lunch on those "Live at the building" days!
