Not yet. Do you want the entire program translated or just the import? I plan to have options for this soon. Unfortunately, I'll require some help in order to do so.marianomarini_vi wrote:It's possible to translate (es.: Italian) ?

MLS 3.0 update
Hyrum,
Great program. I've started using it and with a lot of success. I encountered another issue that I believe is related to the MLS updating to version 3.0. When the MLS 3.0 membership.csv file is imported into Ward Map, there are no ward or stake geo codes. After some investigation it looks like the "geo" in the ward and stake geo code columns changed from GEO (uppercase) to geo (lowercase). It appears the ward map is unable to correctly identify that new "feature" of MLS 3.0. I changed it back to GEO in the .csv file and it worked fine. Keep up the great work!

My Membership.csv file exported this week under 3.0 listed the two column headers as
Code: Select all
"Ward Geo Code","Stake Geo Code"
I also encountered another novel problem, which I don't know to be related to MLS 3.0. (I think its our MLS database.) The "Supervisor" or "Home Teacher 1" columns were blank for some of our records in HomeTeaching.csv, even though there were values for "Quorum", "HT District" and "Comp ID". The WardMap import would not read this file at all, and seemed to hang. Coincidentally, this situation croaked one of my own scripts, too.
Version 0.6.0 is out
I recently posted WardMap v0.6.0. Changes to the MLS export files forced me to rush a few things that aren't quite ready for prime-time, including importing from Italian and Spanish MLS, allowing user translation of WardMap to different languages, storing user preferences, and automatic mapping of active FCC Amateur (HAM) licenses. It also includes numerous minor changes and fixes, and I've put a wiki-based site for it at http://wardmap.hpaulsen.com where feature requests and bugs can be viewed, edited, and added.
Hopefully this continues to be useful for people.

Thanks for the update. Your program has attracted some discussion lately in another thread.

Our Stake Clerk e-mailed the following question to the Europe Central Misison,:

Now this is for wards in Europe, I don't know if what is coming in Sep/Oct is world wide or what it is.
But just as a FYI then the church has something on its way to do the same things as we are discussing.
but your program does look very very good.

I'm not sure if you are the correct recipient for this question, but maybe you can point me in the right direction if someone else should be answering this.
One of the units in our stake (Oslo Stake, Norway) has asked if they can start using Google Earth to map membership data. They say that the missionaries use it, and that's why they came to think of it. Using Google Earth would be helpful in several ways:
*Planning home teaching and visiting teaching district.
*Organizing/suggesting who can pick up who and drive together to Conferences.
*Etc.
We see discussions on the topic on the forums for clerks and techs on lds.org, so it's obvious that many units, especially in the US, have started using it.
We view this software as a potentially helpful tool and would like to start using it. The software is installed locally, so there would be no uploading of membership records to the internet.
Our questions therefore are:
*Does the Church have any policy/guidelines on the use of this software in connection with membership data?
*Are there concerns regarding 'membership record privacy' that would hinder or prohibit us from using this software?
*Any other reasons why we should not start using it?
Best regards,

I am happy to report that I received some information from Church headquarters in Salt Lake City.
Our colleague there spoke with the product manager at MSR (Membership and Statistical Records Division). And this is his response:
”I would advise against them starting anything. We should have something for them by Sept-Oct 2009. they would put a lot of work into something that we will have for them by that time. We will also have better means of safe guarding the data.”
I hope that this information is helpful to you and that we shall see something before the end of the year that will fulfill the purpose that you expect it to fulfill.
Is this information useful to you or would you need additional information.
Kind regards,
Helpdesk Manager

Thanks for the tip! I look forward to seeing the official implementation. We've been hearing about it in these forums occasionally, but never that I can recall with a timeline. I may postpone further development until we can evaluate this forthcoming "something". (It's unlikely that I will have much time until then, anyway!)zabaki wrote:But just as a FYI then the church has something on its way to do the same things as we are discussing.
For our emergency preparedness committee, we wanted the ability to print each region individually, along with a list of the members and HAM operators in that area. So, I've now added a "Area Report" option to WardMap which automatically creates directories and maps for each region (also changing the markers so that you can tell which person is where - as long as there isn't too much overlap).
Please check it out and let me know what you think!
