MLS Error when access HT/VT and certain membership changes

#1

Post by pwilson »

We are unable to access some membership and organization reports on our ward's version of MLS (3.3.0). This started happening out of the blue a week ago.

For example if you attempt to access any Home or Visiting Teaching reports MLS will give an error "An Error Occurred." We have attempted different users and windows logins and all have the same issue.

I also saw the issue trying to make two households from one household. The error was "The database was not able to save the member record. Contact your stake clerk for assistance. The stake clerk should contact support if he needs assistance to resolve this problem."

This has not impacted any financial reporting or tithing recording. We have tried differing levels of logins and the issue is the same for all when attempting these specific reports/HT reporting etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

This sounds like an MLS database problem. Occasionally, backing up and then restoring the database will fix these kinds of problems (since that process rebuilds the database indexes). However, in most cases such problems have to be fixed by CHQ. Call Local Unit Support and they can work with you to obtain your database and fix it.
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.

Database problems are most commonly caused by improperly shutting down MLS. I am not saying this is the cause for this situation but it doesn't hurt once in a while to make sure all users are aware of the correct procedures for exiting MLS as well as shutting down the computer.

When exiting MLS, click the Exit button in the lower left of the Main MLS screen. This will assure that the program closes properly and all data tables are preserved and saved. The user also needs to wait until MLS completely closes before shutting down the computer, as this can also damage the data.
