On Sunday 10/23, 95 stakes in the south end of the Salt Lake Valley participated in a regional conference broadcast from the Conference center. There were several wonderful addresses including the final talk by Elder Bednar. I don't normally make a habit of recording these broadcasts unless I get specific direction from my Stake President.
However, since this broadcast I have received several inquiries from members of my stake presidency and several Bishops if the talks are available for review. Members of my stake want to share it with some of their family members.
Did anyone happen to record this meeeting? And if so, would you be willing to provide a copy to a lowly stake technical clerk?
Thanks.

I don't know what the instructions for this meeting were, but unless you were directed otherwise, you were right not to record it. See Section 21.1.33 of Handbook 2. You're probably out of luck. I hope somebody took good notes.

It has been a year since we had a broadcast stake conference in our area such as that one, but the information we received in planning the converence included specific instructions that the conference was NOT to be recorded.mfmohlma wrote:I don't know what the instructions for this meeting were, but unless you were directed otherwise, you were right not to record it.

And I was involved with this particular conference, and asked the satellite team, and was told specifically that this conference was not to be recorded. There is apparently the possibility of the stake president making a request of the Area Authority over his stake for a recording, but I don't know under what conditions such a request will be granted.lajackson wrote:It has been a year since we had a broadcast stake conference in our area such as that one, but the information we received in planning the converence included specific instructions that the conference was NOT to be recorded.
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.

The other thing that happens on occasion is they publish if not the full address, an edited (usually for space) version of something from one of these. That was the case with Elder Holland in the July Ensign, that talk was delivered 12 September 2010 from the Marriott Center as part of the Utah Valley/Heber Valley regional satellite conference.
That was the talk about the 'Hole in the Rock' expedition.
There have been other occasional quotes and things as well, one of the first was a quote from President Hinckley, but I forget exactly where I saw that, but it was also a First Presidency Message it was included in so that makes that one a little easier to find.

If anyone is interested, before posting to the forum, I called to speak with the satellite support at CHQ. When I spoke with the receptionist telling her what I was looking for, she transferred me and I spoke with Elder Bednar's secretary.
She told me that the meeting was recorded, (which I knew because it was re-broadcast an hour after it ended) but only for historical purposes and the recording would not be released. The interesting thing to me was that she indicated Elder Bednar spoke without a prepared text so no transcript was available either.
I remember wondering when Elder Bednar began speaking at about 11:20 if we would be getting out early. He spoke powerfully and we ended the meeting right at 12:00. And that was without a prepared script. It was an amazing address as can be attested by the number of requests I have had for a copy. I have no doubt that he is truly a chosen and worthy apostle.
