There are a couple of ways.

• You can use Get My Ancestors from Ohana Software to download a PAF file from Family Tree.
• Use one of the applications that sync with Family Tree (look for products on the linked page that include "Tree Share" in their description).

By now, PAF is beyond end-of-life, and Get My Ancestors has followed it. I can't say whether or not other applications still work.

You cannot "download" information from Family Tree. However there are third party apps you can use that will synchronize with FamilySearch to provide the information in a standalone program for offline use. My wife and I use RootsMagic, but there are many others.
