Thank you! This is awesome!

Good suggestion. However, as the stake executive secretary, I often have a need to email the entire stake and there doesn't seem to be an easy way to accomplish this without using the "send a message" tool.

As someone with a stake calling, what do you see when you go to Organizations? Is there a way to select Stake Elders Quorum or Stake Relief Society and then select "All Members"?

From the stake side of things in "organisations" (for the stake unit), you only see the stake leaders, not the stake members in those organisations. So to send to all elders you'd have to go individually through the wards.
It also lacks the ability to send to a whole bunch of other predefined groups such as "parents of young women", "all organisation presidencies", etc that the "send a message" function provides.

caillines Is correct. You don’t have access to any lists of members in a group. You can only email the people who have callings in the various stake level organizations.

Most email services like Gmail or Outlook have a maximum number of recipients you can send to per email or per day, which might make it difficult to send an email to the full stake as well (depending on the size of your stake and how many have email addresses filled in). The best alternative for sending to the full stake may be asking the wards to forward stake messages.

"Send a Message" on LCR

#437

Post by MDJackson »

I'm the communications specialist for my ward and send out a weekly digital newsletter. Randomly, people are reporting that they have stopped receiving the newsletter but always got it previously. Their emails haven't changed. Today, I didn't receive the newsletter. I had to have my husband forward it to me from his email. There seems to be no way to see who did NOT receive it. Is there a solution to this? It's very frustrating. I've read through a lot of the posts here and see that others have also experienced this but I'm not seeing a solution or work around. I really need a fix for this!

Second, my email is somehow mixed up with another ward member's email. Every single time a message is sent from the stake, I receive a second identical email simultaneously from this other ward member. She tried removing her email from her record for a few days and re-inputting it. Still happens.

Hello fellow communications specialist! The reason that I learned about this problem is that I've been sending out weekly bulletins and newsletters as well. We've pretty much experienced the same thing. It's hard to believe that the Church has neither done anything to the fix the problem, nor notified the stakes and wards that the problem exists.

I started sending the newsletter using the Tools App workaround mentioned above and found that it works well.

Technically an email cannot get lost. If the receiving email server for whatever reason (email address does not exist, recipient‘s inbox is full, recipient has blocked the sender) rejects an incoming email the sending server will get notified. In this case the sender (i.e. the one using LCR to send a message) should receive a so called bounce message.

If the sending server (i.e. LCR) cannot get out the message for whatever reason you also will get notified.

The third possibility is that the receiving server accepts the message but deletes it or filter it afterward. The sending server has no way to know this and subsequently nobody will get notified.

I personally use an email server whose configuration I know. It will not delete or filter any emails without noticing the sending server. But still I will occasionally not receive an email sent using LCR.

So my suspicion is that the problem at least in some cases is on the church.

As heavily dependent as we are on LCR, this issue (along with the formatting issue) of the Send a Message function needs to be fixed ASAP. This is totally unacceptable. I don't mind spending the time serving in my calling (I actually love it), but its very frustrating when the Church's tools are more of an impairment than a benefit. It's also rather infuriating that these issues seemingly never get fixed and the underlying response is essentially "deal with it". Want to ease the burden of those serving in the Church? Get the tools to work as they should. I don't think that's too much to ask.
