Tax Exempt Certificate

A sister in our ward is ordering Christmas gifts from a website and would like to get them tax-free. She asked for a tax exempt certificate. Is there such a thing? If there is, how do I get it?

Gifts for whom? I'm not sure as tax-free would apply in this situation. I'd think it would have to be for a church activity or something like that.

The Primary presidency is going to buy photo books (featuring photos of what they've done in 2015) for the Primary kids. Do you think that would apply?

Maybe. On one hand it's "church", on another it's things being given to individuals for their own use. (As opposed to art supplies that would be used at a church activity.)
Probably time to ask someone who knows more about the tax exception. I'm pretty sure that's a local tax law thing (not Federal), so that's something that could be different from state to state.

Thanks, Russell. Should I call the Church's 800 number (sorry, the name of the exact resource escapes me at this time) for more info on this?

Probably the best course of action. But I don't know as you'll get the people you need to talk to until Monday.

Normally, if it's considered a Church purchase, it should be entirely reimbursed by the ward. So, assuming the bishop has already approved the expense, the sister should buy the books, then she can be reimbursed from the ward budget for the entire amount she spent (including tax). The Church should get the tax amount returned to them when they file taxes. If it's not considered a "Church purchase" in being able to use the ward budget for the full expense, then I don't think it would be able to be considered a Church purchase for being exempt from taxes.

That's not universally true; it applies in some US states (Utah and North Carolina) and in Canada, if I recall correctly.

A local Pizza company is donating 25 pizzas for a YM/YW activity for our Stake this evening. What is the tax id number that we can provide to the company? Bill Thompson 6027707288

I guess it's a little late now, but speak with your stake clerk.
In our state, you would provide a
Tax Exempt Certificate but it would not have a
tax ID or certificate ID number on it. And if you had purchased from that vendor before, they would already have it on file.
Every state is different.
