It is easy to do by hand. With your first pass through the neighborhood, just get a pocket size notebook to write in. Write the neighborhood and name of the street at the top of each page. Then all you have to do is note the house number portion of the address as you approach each house. As you leave note a two-letter abbreviation as to the status of the investigator. (NI=not interested, CB=come back, etc.)
Since people often have differing schedules and aren't home when we stop by, and because some will ignore us the first couple of times but eventually soften their heart enough to be curious as to our message, we set a goal of making 5 passes through each neighborhood within the village limits of the town our chapel is in. This goal is a far stretch from fully covering the 1000 square miles our boundaries reach, but it is a good effort.
We've gone out with the young men teachers & priests a few times and I hope to continue that. Since we don't have full time missionaries here, its a good chance for them to learn about missionary work by pairing off with the branch missionaries for a while.
