I reviewed parent information for several members using LCR, and found several cases where the mother's name in LCR was her married name. When I looked at the same membership record in MLS, I found the mother's maiden name. My theory is that the mother's married (or preferred) name is displayed in LCR if the mother is or was a member of the church. If the mother was never a member of the church, her name in LCR always matches her name in MLS, since there is no preferred name for non-members.
I look forward to the day when clerks can update parent and spouse data using LCR. Perhaps that will be the day MLS dies for membership purposes.
