Introduction to LDS Account
Hello all! I used the following code to create a News and Information item that introduces my ward members to LDS Account. You can change the text up a little bit to make it more personal, but this is basically how it goes!
[html]<p>The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is transitioning to an easier way to log in to Church related websites. By using LDS Account, you will be able to use <b>one</b> username and password (instead of multiple separate ones) to access sites such as FamilySearch.org and the Ward Website. Thanks for posting this. Although the HTML code is certainly helpful, I posted the text above in a more readable format so people can see it more easily.AileneRHerrick wrote:Hello all! The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is transitioning to an easier way to log in to Church related websites. By using LDS Account, you will be able to use one username and password (instead of multiple separate ones) to access sites such as FamilySearch.org and the Ward Website. To read more about LDS Account, visit this webpage
To obtain a free LDS Account:
You may edit your profile information at any time by returning to http://ldsaccount.lds.org
- Visit http://ldsaccount.lds.org
- Click on “Register for an LDS Account”
- If you are a member of the Church, enter your Membership Number and Confirmation Date
- Type the jumbled letters that you see on the webpage in the appropriate box (otherwise known as image confirmation), then click “Next Step”
- It will show a name and birth date, and ask, “Is This You?” If it is, click “Yes”
- Enter your email address. Double check it and make sure it is correct. You’ll need your email address if you forget your password
- Select your country and preferred language, then click “Next Step”
- Enter your desired username and password
- Review the Conditions of Use. If you accept them, click “I Accept”
- Review your account information. Print, if desired
- Click “Create Account”
- Check your email (the one that you provided to LDS Account)
- Open the email sent to you from LDSAccount@ldschurch.org
- Click on the link in your email.
- Click “Continue” in the new window that pops up.
- Your Registration is complete!
Remember, the Church is currently in the transition phase of implementing this. You won’t be able to directly log in to the Ward Website or the New Family Search using your LDS Account just yet. I will keep you posted so you know when this will happen! For now, just sign up for the LDS Account, so you have it, but continue to use your old usernames and passwords until we have the green light!
This is a great starting point for other web site administrators. I would note that some of the information in the last paragraph is inaccurate. You can indeed login to the ward website using LDS Account right now. You just have to click on the link labeled: Click here to sign in with your LDS Account.
Since this message seems to be targeted towards people who already have a LUWS login, I would strongly recommend that you change the first few steps. You will save your members a lot of time and hassle if you direct them to
- Go to the new LUWS login page (by following the Switch your account now link from the current LUWS login page).
- Enter their current LUWS credentials and click Sign In
- Click the Register Now button

I think the idea behind the HTML version is that it would work when pasted as a news item in LUWS - complete with working links. But that said, your version is much more readable.Alan_Brown wrote:Thanks for posting this. Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.
So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

At that point you can continue your steps from step 5. But by doing it this way, people won't have to look up their membership record number and confirmation date, or enter the CAPTCHA (the jumbled letters) -- they just use the LUWS login they already know to get their LDS Account.
- Go to the new LUWS login page (by following the Switch your account now link from the current LUWS login page).
- Enter their current LUWS credentials and click Sign In
- Click the Register Now button
Good suggestion. I already had an LDS Account, and I just followed the steps to get my husband one, and wrote them down as I went. I didn't know you could do it the other way... maybe I'll have to make some adjustments...

Oh whoops! I guess I didn't figure to add that, because I think most people test out their new credentials anyway. Thanks for pointing that out!

Aileen, I hope you don't mind that I'm reposting this. I am very appreciative of your efforts and have posted this onto my unit's LUWS. Unfortunately, the code as you have written it doesn't result in a different pointer when you hover over a hyperlink. This is because when you defined the cursor option, you used "cursor;pointer" instead of "cursor:pointer" (semi-colon vs. colon). I've reposted it with this minor, aesthetic change.

Thanks! I actually copied the code from someone else on this forum, and I honestly didn't know the difference. I am SO glad that someone figured out how to make it look like a real pointer! That was driving me up the wall! Thanks so much!
