Unable to print checks
While writing several checks, MLS stopped printing any of the checks. The printer just gives back an error message when I look at the printer list of documents to be printed. I have tried to print from other applications but they also are giving me error messages. I don't know enough to trouble shoot the system so I need help in how to identify and solve the printer problem.

Re: Unable to print checks
Does the printer need new toner or a new drum?
Years ago, a ward reported that their printer had died, and I needed to replace it. I asked them to bring the dead printer to the stake clerk's office. I verified it was not working, and then swapped the toner cartridge with a new one. It worked!

Re: Unable to print checks
Was it a Xerox Phaser 3320? I hate those. No error messages at all. Just a red light. It warns you when it gets low by blinking. When it runs out, it becomes solid red. (But it goes solid red for any other malfunction too.) A red light is the extent of it's communication.drepouille wrote:Years ago, a ward reported that their printer had died, and I needed to replace it. Yes, the Xerox Phaser 3250 does that -- blink red, and then solid red. The only way you can determine what the problem is would be to install the companion software, which is a resident utility that sits in the system tray, and pops up messages when you are out of paper, out of toner, or have a paper jam.

Re: Unable to print checks
You'd think. And that's kind of what I'd expect for a unit with no display. But the last time I checked, there was no companion software. I even managed to dig up a service manual and there wasn't any kind of diagnostic mode or blink codes to indicate what's wrong.drepouille wrote:The only way you can determine what the problem is would be to install the companion software, which is a resident utility that sits in the system tray, and pops up messages when you are out of paper, out of toner, or have a paper jam.

Re: Unable to print checks
I somewhat have a similar situation, but it seems that only MLS is not able to print checks. Everything else seems to send to the printer, but MLS. After tring to print another report to see if it is just the check part of MLS not working but it seems that anything on MLS is not working. Should I reinstall MLS?

Re: Unable to print checks
I would first check to see that MLS is not trying to print to a pdf file. Then, if MLS is the only program that will not print, I would install the latest version over the top of the existing version, even if they are the same.johnny2007 wrote:Should I reinstall MLS?

Re: Unable to print checks
If I recall correctly, MLS remembers the last printer used - but may remember the "checks printer" separately from the "reports printer". In other words, pay very close attention to the printer dialog that comes up to make sure it's trying to print to the right place.

I'll have to see if that will fix the problem when i go in to troubleshoot it Tuesday (benefits of being ward clerk and stake tech specialist). I'll also try to unistall Java completely as described on another thread.
My printer in the clerks office is the one printer that does both, but I did set it to the correct printer :/russellhltn wrote:If I recall correctly, MLS remembers the last printer used - but may remember the "checks printer" separately from the "reports printer". Re: Unable to print checks
It may be the only physical printer, but all it would take is for someone to decide to select the PDF "printer" when printing checks and then all future checks will default to the PDF "printer".johnny2007 wrote:My printer in the clerks office is the one printer that does both, but I did set it to the correct printer :/
