Initiating Melchizedek Priesthood Ordination in MLS for a 17 yr old

I’m a stake clerk and one of the Bishops in my stake has a son who is a high school senior and will turn 18 on June 12. He is unable to initiate the process of ordination for his son by adding a “Pending Melchizedek Priesthood Ordination” record for him. His name simply will not come up for that function. We have another young man who is 17, but whose birthday is on April 20, and he was successfully added.

It strikes me that there could be a limit as to how far in advance of an 18th birthday the process may be initiated. But I’m just speculating.

Of course everyone expects me to know the whys and wherefores of this because of my calling (let’s just say that’s not the best assumption). So I’m relying on you brethren to help me rehabilitate my image. :-D

Thanks in advance!
Ron

Sounds like you're in the same situation as this poster.

The recommendation can't be recorded until one month before the birthday.
