I've been cleaning out the stake clerk's office and I found a temple recommend scanner (item 04838000). This scanner was purchased in 2007 and it looks like it hasn't been used since then. Is there any reason why we would need a temple recommend scanner at our stake center? If there isn't, how should I get rid of it?

It eliminates the need to key in the temple recommend number when activating a recommend. It's still an item that can be ordered from store.lds.org.

You can use it to activate recommends, or you can just type the number from the bar code manually. The scanner simply makes the data entry easier.
