Is it possible to exclude members from lists within "Send a Message" function?

Send a Message function: https://lcr.churchofjesuschrist.org/messaging

We have had members ask to be removed from a contact list. For instance, my wife uses the "Parents of Primary Children" to send out reminders/announcements to all primary parents. Today she had a parent asked to be removed from the list.

I'm not seeing a way to manage members' inclusions to these lists. Is there really no way to accomplish this other than to remove the email address on the individual member's account? Obviously not the best solution since that member will no longer get any email at all.

The Send a Message function asks you to select the addresses to be included for the email, usually by group. In that process, you are given a list of potential addressees and most commonly choose the Select All button.

After Select All, you are able to uncheck individual addresses. This is where you would remove the email of someone to whom you did not wish to send. You would have to remember to do this each time.

If I recall correctly, the Send a Message function only uses the individual email address, not the household email address. So you could possibly either delete the individual email address or change it to an invalid, yet human-readable address.

There are only 3 ways to remove members from the send a message function:
1. Physically uncheck the specific member from the list after you select the group and before you send the message. This requires the message sender to take the action with each and every "send a message" email they sent.
2. Remove their "individual email" from their membership record
3. Edit their email address to be correctly formatted, but incorrect (such as changing "john.smith@mailserver.com to "no_mass_emails_john.smith@mailserver.com"). This method will allow human interpretation of the correct email address but prevent them from receiving it with an email blast.

You can always provide feedback from the send a message page for additional functionality.

Note that if you get a number of requests, especially from active members, it might be wise to re-think the frequency and the content of the email.

I'm assuming said member enjoys receiving other Church mass emails, but just not from a specific organization either because of content or frequency? Or is the Primary the only one sending mass emails, and if another organization like RS/EQ started sending mass emails with the same frequency, they'd also want off that list?

It can be hard to suggest a general solution when usually there's specific details which would impact how to best help that member. Just like an inactive member wanting a "No Contact" status, at times a one-on-one conversation where a leader listens to the member, can perhaps soften the feelings and allow communication to still occur. Definitely not always, but knowing the "why" can help :)
