My wife is interested in setting up a home office as a FamilySearch Affiliate.

We have unlimited high speed Internet to the house with secured WiFi within the house.

We have a residential Internet plan with Cox. However, Cox does not provide static IPs for residential service.

Cox business service plans may offer static IP options. The business service plans cost significantly more, though, than a residential service plan.

Is there a way to obtain a static IP service from another provider while keeping the Cox residential service for the Internet access?

In a google search, I found some possible options. I'm not an expert at this, but apparently you can sign up for a DDNS service that gives you a static IP address you can manage through your residential Cox account. In the reference I looked at, the poster recommended EntryDNS.net as their basic package is free. I'm not necessarily recommending them - just passing on a tip from an internet post. I saw some posts like the one you found. I was an IT guy in a past life, but haven't kept up on the networking and security services available like DDNS, etc. I was hoping a reputable provider like an AT&T or Verizon would offer an additional if not competitive service. I would switch Internet providers if I could get a simple static IP with an unlimited high speed service in my area.

That said, I believe it is the FamilySearch contract with other genealogical services that is the lynchpin - hopefully they can use the pandemic as a reason to renegotiate the contract. This would allow members to perform home-based family history work like you can do at a Family History Center (which are closed, for now).

If anyone else has done a static IP to become an affiliate, I'd be interested in what service or setup you were able to put in place.
