I understand the need for Zoom accounts, but I really think the webcasting platform is the best platform for most cases as it is the most non-interactive platform we can use. Especially from a Building, since you would be doing a webinar anyway with just the host (chapel) as the stream, it would make since to just use the webcasting platform.

Back to the topic here, the problem I find with the reporting is that there isn't a way to find out how many people may be watching from 1 location. We asked people in my Ward when we were using it to put their last name with the number of people (for example, "Smith (7)" in the name field). Then I wrote a little application to grab the data from the webcast platform and extract the number from the line and make it available in a column for easy counting. I also made it so it would look at the connected time and only count people who were connected for 10 minutes or more.

I'll have it posted to my web server tomorrow, so I'll keep you posted on when its up.

We've just wrapped up our stake conference that we conducted via a Zoom Webinar. It's a smaller stake so we didn't come near the 500 connection limit. In order to count the attendance, we set up a Zoom poll that we showed during the intermediate hymn asking "How many are watching from your home?" with options 1, 2, etc. up to "10 or more".

You can then head to the Reports section of Zoom and download the poll results as a CSV. On the reports page you can see the number of unique viewers, and the number of responses will be in the CSV, so you can even extrapolate the responses to get a better idea of actual attendance if not everyone responds. (e.g. If you get 120 responses from 150 unique views, that's 120/150 = 80%. If the reported attendance from the poll sums up to 300, you can extrapolate by doing 300 / .80 = 375 estimated attendance).

I would like to know if MLS has the event attendance statistics so that the clerks can get it.

At the moment they make me go in and copy and paste the attendance from the logs into an email for each ward, as I am the STS for the Magna Stake.

It is very time consuming, and it would make better sense to not give it to the STS, but to the Ward Clerks who need it, and also the Stake Clerk.

What do you think? Is there a way the Clerks have access to this data?

Keep in mind the church is trying to encourage units to use their Zoom account as using the webcast system for weekly meetings is adding a significant cost to the church. Moving the weekly meetings to some other platform solves the problem as well.

Hi Russell,

I agree, and all I was saying is that in the clerk office computer where the ward clerks actually need the sacrament attendance information, which is contained in part in the logs of the webcast event for that ward.

Do not get me wrong however, because I know STS does need that information for technical reasons to make sure that the broadcast is receiving users and their usernames, which is a nice thing to have at our disposal.

If we had that report put in MLS for only Ward Clerks and Assistant Ward Clerks, perhaps that would help in the long run, and take this burden from STS to give the Clerks that information each week, as it is only really a list of names who attended the sacrament meeting, and they desperately need that information as it is allowed to be included in the Bishops budget which is calculated in part from that attendance.

What do you think?

In our stake we have zoom scheduled meetings for things like 2nd hour classes / lessons (Priesthood, Sunday School, Relief Society etc).

We also have other meetings like Bishop Interviews, Welfare and Ward Council meetings, and all kinds of things.

Benefits of a Zoom Scheduled Meeting as a Webcast:
1. We have members in the ward or stake who have little technical ability.
2. Sometimes we want to include all even if they cannot install and create an account in zoom.
3. Bishop meetings and various council meetings in zoom.
4. Stake President stake conferences where we have interactive Priesthood / Leadership meetings, for those who cannot get into zoom.
5. 2nd hour classes like Priesthood, Relief Society, Youth and Adult Sunday School meetings again for those who want to watch without participating due to technology constraints.

I also from time to time if I cannot make the scheduled 2nd hour, give say the Elders Quorum President or Relief Society President the host keycode, so that the designated person can start the breakout rooms, and ensure that the meeting starts on time, where they click participants and then click on 'claim host', type the 6 digit number in, and whola, we have a host in the meeting. Then when I arrive into the meeting signed in as the license credentials, it automatically makes that host a participant instantly, and you are the host.

That is a great way to allow a class to start where you cannot get there, and where you do not have to give out the credentials to the zoom license account, where someone could delete meetings, change settings and so forth!

I hope that gives you some ideas, of that we use.

I am receiving reports today that the Church webcast system randomly, unceremoniously, and with equal opportunity dumped most of our members at various points during stake conference. Almost all of them dutifully reacquired the link and continued watching.

Now, as I review the attendance report, I see that almost everyone in on the list twice. Does that mean that our attendance was actually only half of the number reported?

I've always found multiple entries on the list. You'd probably have to count them by hand to have an accurate number.

Even better, our conference ended this morning, and the attendance count is still going up! Every time I check there are more names on the list. There are over 100 more names this evening than were on the list after the session ended at noon.
