Church provides a new Zoom Account to local units

#1

Post by bretbassett »

The Church will begin offering one Zoom account per unit December 2020. An official communication will be sent to Technology Specialists in the coming weeks with more details. Stakes interested in signing up for Church-provided Zoom accounts before receiving the official communication can do so by visiting meet.churchofjesuschrist.org.

The document advises us to go to meet.ChurchOfJesusChrist.org, but that site is for setting up a Google Meet account.

Could it be dependent on your calling, as to what you see? I'm an STS as well as a Ward Clerk and see options for Zoom as well as Google Meets.

Same here.

Zoom and Google Meet accounts are both provided on meet.churchofjesuschrist.org. Only technology specialists will have the ability to create Zoom accounts.

I'm the stake clerk and I don't see zoom. What do ward clerks see? It says there is one account per unit but it doesn't specify who it will show up for.

To take the mystery out of it, here are a couple screenshots for creating a Zoom account.

As was mentioned, you'll only see the Zoom option if you're an STS. My stake has 8 wards, so my limit is 9 accounts. The "Unit" dropdown has the stake name plus all 8 wards listed. I can create one account per ward and assign an email address to it. Each account created needs a unique email address, so the best option might be for a ward to create their own email/gmail address to use for this. Give that email address to the STS and he can create a Zoom account for you.

Since I already have a gmail account set up for the Webcast box, I plan to change that to a "STS" type account and use the task-specific feature of gmail out linked by Bart

I remember when each unit was given a unit email address, such as 1234567@ldsmail.net or whatever.
