Link to Ward Sacrament Stream

#1

Post by Chromedian »

Currently, anyone can go to http://mywebcast.churchofjesuschrist.or ... texasstake, click on a broadcast, identify themselves, and watch sacrament meeting. Can we get a link to this added to the 'My Account' section of the "My Account and Ward" dropdown menu when the user is logged in? Obviously, this would change the link from /odessatexasstake to /yourstake.

I've been asked by so many people to ask for this change.

You can send in your suggestion using the feedback link found at the bottom of the page in the footer section. The chances of anyone with decision authority seeing this thread is remote at best.

I think what he's asking for is a link on the churchofjesuschrist.org main page that will take each member to their stake's webcast page. It would be there right along with the link to the Directory and Calendar. The idea is to make it easy for each member to find their stake's webcasts.

That would be useful for sacrament and stake conferences, but not helpful for RS/PH/Sunday school which would be on Zoom, Teams or Google Meet.

One thing worth pointing out is that the calendar now allows web links.

Using webcast how to best stop before sacrament ordinance

#4

Post by dkstanger »

We use the webcast system to broadcast sacrament but struggle to turn it off before the sacrament ordinance begins. Currently, someone from the building has to text me and I end the webcast. I’m the stake tech specialist and do this for a couple of wards.
Any advice is appreciated.

How are you webcasting? Someone in the building should be able to halt the broadcast. Just note that if you cut off the stream, the last few seconds are typically lost.

We have called Asst Stake Technology Specialists for the two Wards that use the Webcast system. I have trained them how to log in and use the system. That way when they are done, this person can stop the Webcast as soon as they are done.

Thank you for this response! I have been searching for how to add web links. Would you provide a pointer to how "clickable" web links can be added to calendar events?

I see the [Location][Other] category when creating an event. Add straight text URI's to this field do show a URI for the event but it is not clickable. A ward/stake member would have to cut&paste the URI into their browser. For complex webcast URI's this is too error prone for ward and stake leaders to rely on.

Or are you saying that user editable fields in calendar events support MD (mark down) or other WiKi markup languages?

i.e. the LDS Tech WiKi forum's ability to add embedded links https://tech.churchofjesuschrist.org/wi ... g_tutorial :-D

We have someone in each meetinghouse that knows how to turn off the webcast system. Once I turn it off, I cannot turn it on again with the same links, and the folks using OBS would need new codes to continue to webcast.

If a ward is having sacrament last and someone cannot text you, you would probably need to sacrifice the sacrament hymn. If you are watching the return webcast, you are seeing the meeting with (usually) a two-minute delay, sometimes longer. In that situation, I would turn off the webcast when the sacrament hymn began. Then, the only time you would catch part of the sacrament ordinance would be if the sacrament hymn lasted less than two minutes or so, which is not likely if they are singing all of the verses.

We have a short pause at the end of the broadcast portion of the meeting. After the final speaker, whomever is conducting stands and announces we are turning off the broadcast and will then sing the sacrament hymn. Our Assistant STS is normally in the foyer monitoring the meeting on a tablet and turns off the broadcast feed when he hears the announcement.

I investigated how to add web links in calendar events. I figured out the [Description] field in events converts text based URL's to a clickable link in a standard desktop browser. 2 limitations I am trying to figure out, if anyone has advice:
  • 1. In the [Description] field is there any support for WiKi markup to optionally display a text name instead of long complex meeting URL's?
    2. Is it possible to have the same 'clickable' user experience for events accessed in [Member Tools]?
In a desktop browser, a member can follow the link (screen capture example):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/16bHDmS ... sp=sharing

In Member Tools, they only get the raw text, nothing clickable (screen capture example):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YQn9gV ... sp=sharing

Currently my Bishopric rarely schedules events in the ward calendar and opts to post Zoom, Google Meet and webcast 'clickable' URL's in a PDF of the ward's weekly program. Sort of defeats and diminishes the purpose of a ward calendar.
