Old missionary accounts

I have just been called as Ward Finance Clerk. While reviewing LCR I noticed we had a missionary listed who has been back for almost a year. There is still some money in his account. I assume the account is still visible because it has a balance. If I transfer the balance out to other missionaries in the field will the account close? Some people have still been contributing to his account and I would like it to stop appearing as an option. As it turns out the account was for my son, so I know who to talk to about dispositioning the funds.

As long as the balance is not zero it will remain visible.

It will take some time after the balance is zero before the account will be closed by headquarters.

That is an issue that becomes circular and out of your control. As long as the account is not closed, which you cannot do, it will be visible and available for donations. When donations are made you will have to transfer them out to another account to set it to zero again and continue this until there is a long enough time period of no financial transactions that headquarters will close the account. What I have done is to speak with the bishop and let him know who is contributing so he can speak to those donors and hopefully get them to make their contributions to other accounts.
