Email won't update for out-of-unit member

I have a member in the ward who has been given a calling in another stake as an out-of-unit member. In that other stake, his email address shows up incorrectly, and neither he nor his other stake are able to change it. They came back to me, the membership clerk in the ward in which his records reside. I am not seeing the incorrect email address; everything looks good on my end, but in the stake where he is an out-of-unit member his household email is still showing up as the incorrect email. I've tried "updating" his email to the correct email address that it was already, and that didn't change anything.
Are the email addresses for out-of-unit members separate from the email attached to their record in the home ward? If so, who has the ability to edit that email address? I can't figure out a way to even see the incorrect email on my end, but he has shown me that it is in fact incorrect in the out-of-unit member record.
