Additional VLANs?

#1

Post by mrbitsch »

The new network switches and control options in TM are great, and a welcome addition to helping manage the internet and wireless in the buildings.

While there's certainly more network traffic these days with regular Sunday streaming, even just looking at stake conference broadcasts to other buildings, it would be nice if we had a VLAN we could use to put all the cameras (okay well BOTH) on their own network segment, ideally without internet or even DHCP access. Any chance there's a possibility of getting an additional VLAN added to the dropdown that lets us do that?

What would be the benefit? While it would hide the cameras from being tampered with, you still have bandwidth concerns.

And now you'd need some way for your video mixer/switcher to bridge between the camera feed and internet access.

When setup for stake conference broadcasts a separate switch gets setup for the cameras and audio equipment and the broadcast PC bridges between this switch and the building switch for internet access. There are a couple of places where there's an existing run going to the building switch that I'd like to put a camera, and it would be nice to drop those ports into a separate VLAN with the "conference" switch. Not strictly necessary, and with the added control we have in TM now over switch ports it would be possible to just connect the "conference" switch to the main building switch.
