There have been a lot of questions and confusion in the forum regarding setting up YouTube Live (YTL) for your ward and/or stake webcasts. I'm putting together a multi-part, step-by-step series for Stake Technology Specialists, that I used to setup YTL for my stake. This guide assumes you have a stake YouTube channel already setup, you have access to control that channel, and have waited the necessary 24 hours before trying to create a live stream.
Preface: If you don't have a stake Gmail address already, you'll need to create one, but only if you're the STS. One may have been created already for access to the church's Zoom account. This will work, as long as the email address isn't one that contains a "+" in it. I created [my stake's name]@gmail.com for my stake. Now, use your stake's Gmail account to create an account on YouTube.
Once you have a YouTube account, you'll still need to create a YouTube "channel". Follow the instructions in this help guide to create a channel: Create a YouTube channel. After the introduction, skip down to, "Create a channel with a business or other name" and create a channel using your stake's name.
OK, on to the good stuff...
Part 1: Create and schedule unique live events (sometimes called "meetings") for the stake and/or each ward. Because each of these events uses a different Stream Key, there is no problem for any or all of them to run concurrently, even in the same building, so long as you have ample upload bandwidth. The procedure in Part 1 only needs to be performed ONCE for each event. Part 3 will show how to easily recreate an event that recurs without going through all the steps outlined here.
