Circles - Removing Calendar Events by Others

#1

Post by twirick »

We had a YM leader post a daily repeating event in error. The leader has moved from the ward, but the event and its reminder pop up everyday. For every youth and adult leader. The bishop and I (bishopric1st counselor) don’t see any way to remove the event. Any suggestions?

Are you talking about the ACTIVITIES tab in the Circles function. If so, then any administrator should be able to remove it. Disclaimer: Since the ACTIVITIES tab is not used in our ward I could not attempt to remove any activity except one I added. But when I did add an activity I removed it by tapping the name of the activity, then tapped the trashcan icon to remove it.

We are having the same issue in our ward. The Executive Secretary created a repeating Activity and shared with the Ward Council. Now I am the Executive Secretary and the previous one is not a member of the Ward Council. He does not see the Activity and therefore cannot delete it. I do not see the Activity. But several members of the Ward Council get daily reminders that they have an Activity when in reality they do not. I had two of them look on there phone and they do not have the ability to delete the Activity. Any help or guesses on how to remove would be appreciated.

The bishopric, executive secretary, and ward clerk are default administrators for the ward council circle and should be able to delete activities for that circle. Ask one of those other administrators to try and delete the activity.

You did not mention how long it has been since your calling was recorded. It can take a while, days, for callings and it's permissions to propagate through all the systems. I don't know if syncing resets permissions automatically for the Gospel Living app. For mobile apps l would sign out of the app, close it, and then open it and sign in to reset the permissions. If that does not grant you the permissions or even visibility to the activity then there may be a bug. Use Send Feedback from within the app found in the Profile > Support section to report the issue.

Today I got an update to 2.01 (iOS) that may have fixed this issue.

The extra activities went away yesterday, but today they’re all back.

By following the instructions, I was able to remove all the activities but one. I can’t find it anywhere. I’ve cleared out all the organization activities, but a bishop youth council event shows up.

This is a serious issue. If the app becomes a hassle it will be abandoned.

Did you submit a bug in the in-app feedback?

Are you the person who created the bishop youth council event, or was it created by someone else? Maybe the person who created it – or the person who currently holds the same calling as the person who created it, if callings changed – has to delete it.

Seriously though, why has this bug not been fixed?
If someone is no longer in the circle (moved, released from calling, called to something else) why are their “reoccurring activities” activities not also removed …FB sucks and even they have that much figured out.
Also, why are permissions maintained in circles where the person no longer even has records there?!
Ex: we moved to a different state and kept getting everything from our old ward…months after, with totally new callings in the church system… even after uninstalling and reinstalling the app… all while still not having access to the new unit’s circles. *
*So any excuse of “well give it time” is not valid.

To admin and developers… No one out here on the fringes (especially us Sister’s who are responsible for most communication and for teaching over 60% of the Church’s population, who on this “social app” have NO admin rights and are frequently ignored by old men called to “tech” & “clerk” church positions-but who also can’t figure out how to use “tools” ) wants a response of how each user can “ask” someone else to “fix” the notifications coming into their OWN phone!

We ARE asking for developers to fix the problem.

Seriously, and not with malice or bitterness, we need ya’ll to fix these bugs. I can’t get our units to buy into this app because of these issues and 3rd party apps - prone to problems of security vulnerabilities, identity theft, - automatic download of inappropriate content sent by ANY other user (such as Groupme, etc.) are force exposing our youth members to pornography, (yeah…that’s happening) and older members identities are being stolen.

This app has so much going for it that avoids the problems of those open programs but no one wants it because of the lack of user permissions on notification settings (that’s not actually, fully, tied to callings but to “previous” callings”)

Help us, help you, help us!
