Password Reset Time
Hello! I'm wondering what the default password reset time is on the clerk computers? I'm wondering because our Relief Society President has been prompted to change the password twice in the last two months, but it seems like it should keep a password longer than that. The password also hasn't been changed for months before just recently.
I'm also a church employee and the policy was changed a couple years ago for us so we weren't forced to keep changing our passwords. Is it supposed to be the same for clerk computers?
Thanks!

Re: Password Reset Time
Which password? Windows or MLS?
I think the stock computer image was either 60 or 90 days. I'm not sure what the requirement for MLS is.

Re: Password Reset Time
Windows sometimes comes with a 42-day setting. That can be turned off by your stake technology specialist. The last time I used MLS it did not require changing the password after any particular amount of time.
If you are going through a web browser to the Church website, there are different rules depending on whether or not you are an employee, teach Seminary or Institute, or have access to sensitive items at the site.
My guess is that the STS needs to turn off the Windows setting for you.

I’m an STS, where in Windows is the setting for turning off the password time limit as described? Please PM me if the information is sensitive

Re: Password Reset Time
Anyone with access to a Windows profile with administrator rights can change the password expiration limits. Follow the instructions in this article in How-To Geek that describes several methods. In the section titled 'Set a Password Expiration Date for Your Local Account' scroll down to the instructions for using the group policy editor, gpedit.msc.

I’m a little confused. In all the years (10+) that I’ve been installing and looking after clerk computers, I’ve never come across a local administrator account where the password expires!

Re: Password Reset Time
That happened when Windows 10 was updated two significant updates ago (I can't remember the change number). That change set the expiration to the default maximum time of 42 days. This was suppose to be a MS security enhancement since the previous default was 'no expiration date'.

Re: Password Reset Time
Were those W10 updates instigated by the church? I tend to download the Media Creation Tool and do the updates that way. So maybe that’s why I’ve never come across this.

Re: Password Reset Time
I've seen that on all the Lenovos I've installed. I assumed it was a policy set by the church.
In a normal business setting, it's set at the domain level and forced onto most everyone unless their account is set to "never expire".

I wouldn't have thought it would make any difference, but here in the UK we use Dell Optiplex PC's!russellhltn wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 1:28 pm I've seen that on all the Lenovos I've installed. I assumed it was a policy set by the church.
