Clerk computer password no longer working
I'm the ward clerk, today our clerk computer will not accept the password. Our stake technology person and I have no idea how to regain access. I saw two similar threads in December but none seemed to have a resolution. Does anyone have ideas aside from contacting the help desk during the week? I've worked 400 hours of overtime in just the past six weeks, I can't take a weekday off work to come sit at the meetinghouse.

To clarify. Is it the Clerk computer password, or the MLS password?ryanmercer wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 9:51 am I'm the ward clerk, today our clerk computer will not accept the password. I purchased some software to remove forgotten passwords, when I’ve come across this issue on a PC. Perhaps someone else might have an alternative option!

The windows 10 password for the clerk computer. We can not access the computer and have had no issues accessing it since I installed the new computer in early November when we didn't have a stake tech called.Biggles wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 10:12 amTo clarify. What name are you using for the login? If it's "Administrator" you may have a real problem.
If you have to type the user name in, try adding .\ in front. For example ".\clerk".

Trying to log in to the ward account, and typing in a user name isn't an option. We can either select the ward one or some variation of what sounds like an SLC admin account.russellhltn wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 11:31 am What name are you using for the login? Re: Clerk computer password no longer working
It sounds like the password expired. The maximum duration for the password is 42 days and if the system was set up in early November then the 42 days elapsed. Normally, however, there are a number of warnings to reset the password before the password expires. If those warnings were ignored that would explain the inability to use the old password. If there were no warnings then there is another issue causing the problem.
The only way to gain access is for the password to be reset through another administrator account. Without a stake admin account your next recourse is to call the GSD and have them access the computer remotely through the service support account (the other account you can see as one of the two available) and reset the password. You will be instructed by support to change the password they create after you gain access.
Once the account is recovered and to avoid the password expiring again the password duration needs to be set to never expire through the group policy editor, gpedit.msc. A stake administrator account also needs to be set up for future support from the stake technology specialist for similar situations.

I don't think I've ever seen an expired Windows password result in being unable to log in. What I have seen is where Windows forces you to change the password during login. Whoever did that probably failed to communicate what the new password is.jdlessley wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 6:36 pm It sounds like the password expired. If the old password had a number, try incrementing it by one.
