Procedure for household contact info. (Phone/email)

Where can I read what the procedure is for which phone number and which email to use when contacting families in the ward at the household level?

Have had issues in the past when trying to sending out information to families via email and phone numbers listed in directories (because they list the wrong phone number or it's going to the wrong family member). Also, when emailing or calling people in directory and in organizations via Tools, Church website, it sends to the household email/phone instead of directly to the individual email/phone number. Had an instance where I was unintentionally contacting the person's spouse's email, etc., thinking it was that person in the organization via the app. Today I had to change the household phone number for a single adult member who is their own head of household. I changed their household number to the same number as their individual number, which is the number they provided.

I believe the Send a Message tool only sends to the individual email address - not to the household email address. I'm not sure there's a hard procedure worldwide as situations can be vastly different.

There can be only one household phone number and when I was clerk I would ask the family what they wanted to show in that field. For us, my wife's cell # shows as her individual number and our household number while my cell # shows as my individual number.
