Ability to see own status of Youth Protection training

#1

Post by kathrynkindall »

I cannot find anywhere that a member can see their own status of when they last took the Protecting Children and Youth training. I know this is available to leadership in LCR but often, by the time a member is told about the need for doing the training again, it's past due and it makes the member feel bad or pressured. If this could show up as part of our personal profile with the dates, it would be so helpful.

The members whose protection training is expiring are supposed to get an email from the Church 30 days before the training expires. Unfortunately some emails are not coming through from the Church currently about a variety of subjects. The bishop and ward clerk can see whose training is expiring soon and they should also be alerting them.

You have a very good idea, suggest you submit it on the protection training web site where it says contact us, so that the decisions makers can see the feedback.

I agree that each member should be able to see when their youth protection training is expiring. We have access to our temple recommends when they expire. You can’t even print out a completion certificate for youth training. If you are asked to sub in Primary and you accept and then you find out aren’t up to date on Youth Protection it is embarrassing.

A note about the report:
From what I can see, the "Protecting Children and Youth Training" report that the Bishopric can access, is limited to those with callings in the following organizations: Bishopric, Elders Quorum, Relief Society, Aaronic Priesthood Quorums, Young Women, Sunday School, and Primary.

I am uncertain if there is any way to find out if a member who is not called to one of those positions, has their training up-to-date. At least for us, it seems like the report is not including anyone with other callings (for example Music Leader, Family History Specialist, etc), or somebody with no current calling. Just to set expectations for anybody whose Primary organization is requiring training completion in order to be used as a random substitute, for some members this info might not be accessible, and Bishoprics might not be able to alert members to any pending expirations.

Of course if this isn't true, hopefully somebody corrects me!

I believe what you have said is true. But there are now several states that require training for anyone working with children and/or youth, including substitutes, and it is becoming more important that there be a way for leaders to know for certain what the training status is for a member.

At this point, I would be keeping local records if I were one of those leaders.

From my personal questioning of organization leaders in my ward and the Access Table, the bishopric, executive secretary, and ward clerk are the only ones in a ward who can view the report.

Clarification (looking back, I wasn't clear what I was referring to):
I meant that the report only lists those with current callings in those organizations. So as you state the Bishopric+ (Bishop/Counselors/ExecSec/Clerk) indeed are the only ones who can view it, and the members who will appear in the report is limited and will not be the entire congregation.

It appears that the temple can see this information, perhaps because the set-apart ordinance workers are loaded in the system. Having completed youth protection training is now expected for temple workers who are assigned to the baptistry.

Why is this even an issue? I have more than 20 years of professional IT experience, and I am sure tens of thousands of my fellow brethren have these skills as well. Do you need help adding this feature to the site? It is very frustrating not being able to view this information and keep ourselves trained. I serve in multiple callings that need this training, and was informed today that mine had expired by a member of the Primary Presidency. Let's get this fixed, please!

Thank you Sister Kindall! I 100% agree! Being several years into this new Church protocol, there is no excuse that it is not available on the member's profile.
