Checks Stolen

#1

Post by brown67 »

Our chapel was broken into last night. They used a crowbar to break into 2 of the clerk's offices and stole all of our checks. No one is available at Local Unit Support over the the weekend, but we did do an incident report.

Is there anyway to stop payment on the checks that were stolen online, or do I have to wait until Monday to call?

Ward checks will not clear unless the information for the check is entered online. There is, in effect, a stop payment on any ward check until information has been added to LCR. If they stole any checks that had already been entered but not distributed then you can go into LCR and void those checks. This will automatically put a stop payment as well.

I would still call the GSD first thing Monday morning and report the checks stolen. For one thing, they need to know this so new checks can be sent to your ward. Watch as the check numbers will need to be synchronized with LCR as those numbers stolen will probably be skipped when replacements are sent. You will sync when you verify the check number on the first new check you write, suspect you may need to manually override the default check number which comes up.

Make sure your building is secure of course. This might require a call to the emergency number of EMCOR.
