Changes to Ward History, "History" standard calling

#1

Post by MurdockM »

My ward just called a Ward History person in preparation for the changes to be rolled out for the unit histories.
There is a "History" standard calling however it's a mystery to me how to add a members name to the vacant calling.

I would like to use the Standard calling of History so that they have access rights to the new unit history systems when it rolls out.

Sincerely,
Ward Clerk

PS: The following is an email from my Stakes Presidency.
---
"Bishops,

This past Wednesday evening, the Stake Presidency met with ....., our Regional Church History Specialists, regarding upcoming changes in the methods and procedures in which we record both our Stake and Ward histories.

During this meeting significant church wide changes were discussed regarding the method in which Ward and Stake history information will be collected and submitted to Church headquarters. The biggest change being that each Ward and each Stake will be submitting their information electronically into a live document over the internet that will be available to members of the Ward to read and gain inspiration from. Gone will be the submission of dull meetings and quarterly reports that are likely never read but only gather dust on an office shelf. In their place will be inspirational stories collected from the Wards and Stake reflecting on the spiritual growth of the members.

To do this, each Ward, and Stake will have an online portal for monthly submission of important events throughout the year. Although the exact details and start date are not yet known, this informational tool is set to begin “very soon.” As such, in addition to the Stake Church History Specialist already called, ...., the Stake Presidency is requesting that each Ward identify a Ward Church History Specialist who will be the central go to person for collecting information from the Ward organizations and members throughout the year as well as to regularly submit this information via the Internet to Church headquarters. This calling will require that those called to be both computer and internet savvy as well as personable to encourage regular participation with Ward organizations in the collecting of this information.

Additional information will be forthcoming from Brother and Sister .... as well as detailed training as to how this all will be accomplished.

Please prayerfully discuss this important calling in your Bishopric meetings and identify an individual or couple no later than the end of July 2023. Once the calling has been made, please forward the names to the Stake Presidency so we can inform them once additional information is known and to schedule future training.

On behalf of the ... Stake Presidency.

Thank you,"

It appears that your ward has a custom position if it is in fact listed as "History". The standard position is "History Specialist". It is found in the Organization > Other Callings > History menu of LCR. Adding a person to the vacant calling is done by clicking the edit icon (pencil icon) on the right side of the page for the calling. More than one History Specialist can be called. Clicking the "+ Add Another Calling" link on the right side of the page allows you to add another History Specialist or to create a custom position.

Does this new way of recording a wards history do away with the annual ward history report due at the end of the year?

Yes, when the Unit History Tool is rolled out, you will no longer be required to submit an annual history.

Where is the document to which information will be added. What program will the document be made in. Is their a blank template to get the information started for the year. Will each organization be able to add information or is it still me adding information?
I hope members of the ward can add their experience to the history. Experience

The new tool to do unit histories is found in the Church website Resources menu titled Unit History. Go to that webpage and review the Quick Start Guide and the FAQs. Those help resources will answer most questions.

There are other unit history topic threads in the Tech Forum discussing the new tool. For discussions about the tool and how it works or issues encountered, please contribute to those threads or start a new thread. This topic thread should remain focused on the calling for unit history.
