Looking for advice on reporting and tracking

Post by leburnett »

New ward clerk here.
Appears LCR doesn't really let you export data for sorting and such in an external program.
How are people dealing with keeping track of things like...

Inactive members - my go-to would be to use Excel or Sheets to keep a list where we could keep track of visits, attempted visits, responses, etc.

Members without callings - I know there's a report for this, but sometimes a member doesn't want a calling or something. I would naturally keep this list in Excel/Sheets so I could keep notes, dates, etc. for future follow up and such.

There's many Forum posts that deal (directly or indirectly) with the issue of external storage of member data. I'm not as well-versed as other Forum members, but my perspective is that:
1) The Church is unlikely to ever encourage export of data to external programs, mainly due to privacy issues
2) The Church is unlikely to provide their own functionality to allow for this type of data storage and manipulation (but could happen)
3) There are considerable differences of opinion on whether member data should be stored externally, and if so, what data is okay to store, and how and where you might store that data.

Much discussion revolves around the reality of needing a way to keep track of info like yours, with the reality that severe legal issues can arise if certain data is exposed (or even just members objecting to their information being potentially exposed).

I'd search the Forum, you can find many posts about this subject. I'd read through them and see the different viewpoints and proposed solutions, then counsel with your Bishop for his guidance (and if he hasn't considered the implications yet, maybe share pertinent Forum threads with him). Maybe other Forum members can help point you to good Forum posts to reference.
