LCR mail merge?

Post by rdwoodland »

We are looking to send out a physical (Christmas) letter to all of the members of our ward. Is there a way to print mailing labels from LCR?

There was a year ago; my bishop asked me (membership clerk) many questions about oddities in the names and addresses the report produced. From my email archives, the path is as follows: LCR -> Membership -> Member List -> Households -> Print -> Mailing Labels. That drops down some options about how to format the names and such. Then, click Print Mailing Labels, which brings up a PDF of the names and addresses. Saving the PDF to a file may allow you to print the file on a different computer, etc.

Last years, my bishop discovered a few oddities. The discussion of those oddities is here: viewtopic.php?p=238097#p238097

One post in that thread says the formatting is designed for Avery 5160 labels.

LCR > Membership > Member List, or LCR > Reports > Member List. Select either the Individuals or Households tab, as appropriate. Then check the names/households to be printed. Click the Print link, select "Mailing Labels" at the bottom of the print dialogue pop-up, and then appropriate options below the Print button. Either click the Print Mailing Labels button to continue or click the "Instructions for Mailing Labels" for further help.

When I follow the above advice I do not get a dropdown option to print mailing labels. Seems this has been an issue for others as well. I am a 2nd counselor in the Bishopric. Shouldn't I have this ability?

The LCR access table says Ward Bishopric Counselors should be able to print mailing labels. There's a very slim possibility that the cookie build-up problem might be in play. Trying incognito/private mode and/or clearing browser cache and deleting relevant cookies would test that possibility.

I tried both things you listed here. Neither worked. I asked the ward clerk and membership clerk to login and see what privileges they have. Both have label privileges. Seems odd that I would not.

That indicates to me that the recent changes made to LCR may have changed the permissions for printing mailing labels to those callings with membership edit permissions. It may have been an oversight when the changes were made. Check with your executive secretary to see if he still has permissions to print mailing labels. If not, then sending feedback may prompt them to restore the permissions.

I have tried the recommended methods. I did not see a mailing lables as an option in the print dialogue. With all of the recent changes to LCR, is printing mailing labels still possible? Also is it possible to parse the various fields into a columnar format so that one could create a file that was compatible with mail merge applications? A mailing label format entails parsing the names and addresses to get the correct format for a mail merge document.

For mailing labels which show both husband and wife, if they are both members:

LCR > Membership > Member Directory > Households > Print > Mailing Labels > Household Name > Print Mailing Labels

LCR > Membership > Member Directory > Households > Print > Mailing Labels > Household Name > Print Mailing Labels

This will actually put Husband and Wife even if one of them is not a member as long as their name shows up in LCR under the Family tab of the member record.
