Add household member gives household address of member being added

Post by mevans »

A BYU ward send records for someone back to our ward. I regrouped the child with the family (by going to the family and choosing to add a household member). To my shock, the whole family now lives in the dorms at BYU! I then had to edit the household address back to where the family lives.

I didn't look at the child's records, but I suppose the clerk sent the record back to the parents' ward and didn't change anything, so the child's address was still at BYU, but the record was now in our California ward.

I suppose this is an LCR bug, but I don't currently have other records to test this. Often times when student records come back, they have at least changed the address back to their home in our ward, but the bug isn't too apparent. Although I have seen the clerk in the sending ward just grab the address of our meetinghouse and put that for the child. I don't know if I have any more records coming back this summer. Maybe I'll have to pay attention to this and see if I can reproduce this. But if anyone else has students coming back home for the summer, you might try making sure the child has an incorrect address (like the church building) before joining the child to the family (save the family address first so you can fix it). Then see what the resultant address is.

I know this is people helping people. If I submit this, all they're going to do is tell me to clear my cookies to fix the problem. I already solved the problem and don't have other test cases right now. But maybe people here will have more test cases to help figure out if this is a bug.

It's possible this is a false alarm. I found out at church yesterday that the record was brought back to our ward to fix something and the child's parent may have edited the child's address, not realizing it would change the entire family's address. And maybe we were all in the record around the same time.

Someone from the church also contacted me about this as they're working on some code in this area.

So for now, let's consider this isn't a problem.
