Primary Assistant Secretary

#1

Post by RBeatse »

We had some boundary changes and the Primary just grew exponentially. The Primary President called an Assistant Secretary. I can't see how to have an Asst Sec in Primary. Giving her a Custom Calling does not give her access to the children's records, birthdates, etc. The RS can have as many Asst Sec as they want but it seems Primary only gets one. That seems like a bug, no? I will call the Global Services also but wanted to see if anyone here has run into this and has a workaround.

What does the Handbook say?

It doesn't list any additional callings for Primary. Just seems like an oversight but I'm sure it is not. Makes it tough on the Sisters in the Presidency.

LCR isn't going to support going beyond the Handbook. The forum is community discussion and we don't have any pull for policy changes like that.

I would suggest looking over the responsibilities and make sure the presidency is delegating everything they can. A quick thumb though suggests the presidency is more about keeping the organization on track and the bulk of the dealing with the children will fall to the teachers. The stake primary's role is training of the ward primary. I'd make sure that resource is being used.

Hopefully the increase in primary brings an increase in members who can serve in primary.

Good luck!

For reference, the same issue was raised in the following thread: Multiple Primary Secretaries with LCR access. You might consider posting a response to that thread, to see if the original poster found any helpful solutions or workarounds, I know this is a quite-common scenario in many wards with rather large primaries.

I agree with the other posts, that you'll have to work within the constraints currently in the Handbook (and thus LCR) regarding only a single Primary Secretary having LCR access. Perhaps having the secretary perform all LCR-specific tasks, and having the assistant secretary assigned to do tasks that don't require LCR access. That said, using Feedback to request an enhancement (aka change to the Handbook which would then allow LCR to follow suit), is always a good idea.

When doing so, I'd suggest stating the "business case" as to why this is needed.

I notice that Priesthood and Relief Society can be split into multiple quorums/groups. Even the Ward can be split. But it seems that Primary can only split classes.

Thanks, I have already given the feedback but I won’t hold my breath.
