At the end of last year, LCR told us we had thousands of dollars left on our budget for the year. But come to find out LCR was wrong. We had overspent by $3200. Even now LCR says in 2024 we had 5k left over but in reality we had only $23.59 that rolled over to this year. Any idea why LCR would be so off? Or how LCR calculates these numbers.
LCR numbers currently say
Budget Balance as of 31 Dec 2024
5,144.56 of $17,429.44
I have attached a screenshot of this.
In reality it should say
23.59 of $17,429.44

Re: Incorrect Budget amount in LCR
I'm not following how you could have been overspent by a large amount yet had a small amount left to roll over. Also how you could have overspent and not been contacted by headquarters? Or perhaps overspent means something else to you than it does to me?
Check your transfer page. Is it possible the stake asked for unused budget funds?
How are you arriving at the $3200 overspent number? It is not the difference between any numbers I am seeing.

Re: Incorrect Budget amount in LCR
I'm not sure what's going on, but "budget" can mean two different things. There's the "budget" as in the spending plan. This is the same as when you do a budget for yourself or family. The spending plan does not carry over. You start with a new spending plan come Jan 1.
Then there's the budget allocation. That's more like a bank balance. You receive the allocation based on the quarterly reports as well as how much the stake "takes off the top" to fund stake activities. You should be getting a notice as to how much you'll be getting as it's disbursed each quarter. This does carry over, but if excessive, the stake may ask for some of it back.
Of course your "bank balance" may not align perfectly with your "spending plan". That may be why you're seeing two different "budget" numbers.
I'm not sure what happens to the spending plan at the end of the year. I know there's no carry over, but I'm not sure how adjustments are made to the plan for following year. Perhaps you don't have a spending plan for 2025, so anything you're spending this year is automatically "over budget".
Complicating things, any allocation that was disbursed to different subaccounts will be rolled up to the main account at the end of the year.
As garystroble indicates, over drawing your bank balance quickly gets the attention of the higher ups. Overspending your spending plan is unlikely to create much attention outside of the ward.

Re: Incorrect Budget amount in LCR
Your first line of support for this kind of question should be your stake finance clerk or stake clerk. They can see all the numbers related to your unit. Without access to all of your financial reports it's not possible to understand or explain what you're seeing and how it should be interpreted. If they can't explain it then they should contact the global service center for guidance.
It's possible that there is some bug that you are encountering. But in my experience LCR generally works just fine and but most problems involve not interpreting what each number means correctly. russellhltn touches on the type of ways things can be misinterpreted. The stake finance clerk will hopefully have enough experience to be able to resolve your questions.
